Первым этапом должно было стать массовое представление рядом ведущих производителей своих моделей Google TV на выставке CES 2011. Однако, как сообщает Нью-Йорк Таймс, в последний момент компания Google попросила партнеров, в числе которых Toshiba, LG и Sharp, задерживать выпуск своих продуктов, так как может потребоваться доработка программного обеспечения телевизоров. <br /><br />Одна из предполагаемых причин задержки в том, что пока не готово к запуску новейшие обновление технологии. К тому же не утихают споры в обоснованности доступа через платформу Google TV к интернет ресурсам компаний кабельного телевидения. Ведущие кабельные телевещатели NBC, CBS, ABC  и Hulu уже закрыли свои сайты для посетителей с Google телевизоров.<br /><br />Компании кабельного ТВ утверждают, что они теряют деньги от рекламы, потому что оплата рекламы в интернете не такая дорогая, как на кабельных каналах.<br />
