WD TV Live, как и многие производимые сегодня плееры, особенно для американского рынка, не в последнюю очередь ориентирован на потоковые видеосервисы, коих а Америке предостаточно. Довольно емкий жесткий диск позволяет сохранять скачиваемые из сети фильмы и музыку, создавать из имеющихся Blu-ray дисков подборки любимых фильмов и музыкальных записей.<br /><br />Но WD TV Live, оправдывая свое предназначение, как медиацентра, поддерживает еще и ряд дополнительных функций. Так, например, он может транслировать фильм на установленный в гостиной HDTV, потоковое видео на телевизор в другой комнате. Для исполнения таких функций  WD TV Live оснащен видеоинтрфейсами: HDMI, композитным и компонентным. Два USB порта позволяют воспроизводить медиа файлы с флэш-накопителей, видео и фотокамер. Для упрощения манипуляций с файлами может подключаться стандартная USB клавиатура. Серьезно расширить интерфейсные возможности позволит дополнительно приобретаемый беспроводной Wi-Fi адаптер. И, конечно же, WD TV Live может работать в составе домашней медиа сети, принимать контент с внешних дисков, компьютеров, ноутбуков и другой DLNА совместимой видеотехники.<br /><br />Первоначально WD TV Live эксклюзивно продается  за $200 лишь через универмаги и интернет магазин крупнейшей американской торговой сети Best Buy.
