В будущем 2010 году многие провайдеры кабельного и спутникового телевидения планируют начать трансляции телевизионных передач и кинофильмов в трёхмерном формате. За их анонсами стараются поспеть и производители «железа».<br /><br />С учётом этих  тенденций, а также недавнего утверждения формата 3D Blu-ray, организация HDMI Licensing LLC объявила о скором внесении поправок в стандарт HDMI  версии 1.4. Судя по всему, эти изменения будут призваны обеспечить полную его совместимость с будущими технологиями трёхмерного показа. По предварительной информации, в новых спецификациях будет организована поддержка 3D-технологии "Top/Bottom", которая при некотором снижении физического разрешения видеоряда, позволяет совмещать в одном кадре два изображения – для левого и правого глаза.
