Отныне, разработанный Apple стандарт mDP может быть использован и другими производителями.<br /><br />За счёт миниатюрности разъёма, mDP будет востребован при производстве «утончённых» ноутбуков, мобильных устройств (смартфоны, видеокамеры, фотоаппараты, плееры). Также он будет незаменим для видеокарт и другого видеооборудования, предусматривающего большое количество выходов. Что примечательно, mDP будет поддерживать переходные адаптеры, транслирующие его сигнал в стандарты DVI, HDMI и VGA.<br /><br />В дальнейшем планируется усовершенствование стандарта DisplayPort до версии 1.2. Главной особенностью обновлённой версии стандарта станет удвоение пропускной способности интерфейса – до 21,6 Гбит/сек. Это позволит реализовать поддержку более высоких частот развёртки, необходимых для 3D, в случае использования активных очков, работающих по технологии оптических затворов с временным мультиплексированием, а также, более высоких разрешений, вплоть до 2160p.
