Ранее роль «могильщика» ЖК-дисплеев прочили мониторам на органических светодиодах (OLED), но они пока с большим трудом завоевывают себе место под солнцем: когда удалось преодолеть основной недостаток — ограниченный срок службы, стало сказываться ценовое давление конкурирующей технологии.<br /><br />Компания Uni-Pixel объявила о начале серийных поставок пленки, выполненной по технологии MEMS. Пленка, получившая название Opcuity, является одним из ключевых компонентов дисплеев, в которых используется технология оптических затворов с временным мультиплексированием (time-multiplexed optical shutter, TMOS). Эти дисплеи в десять раз ярче и на 60% дешевле в производстве, чем жидкокристаллические. Интересно, что новые дисплеи можно будет производить на тех же линиях, где сейчас выпускаются жидкокристаллические дисплеи.<br /><br />В дисплее TMOS используется один слой MEMS-пленки между нижним и верхним слоями из стекла. В ЖК-панели между ними находятся пять различных слоев, включая поляризаторы и цветные фильтры, которые ухудшают прохождение света.<br /><br />В жидкокристаллическом дисплее цвет пикселя формируется с помощью субпикселей красного, синего и зеленого цвета. Цвет пикселя в TMOS формируется за счет временного мультиплексирования лучей красного, зеленого и синего цвета, поступающих от светодиодов, расположенных на боковой стороне нижнего слоя стекла. Пленка работает, как оптический затвор — под действием напряжения, приложенного к тонкопленочному транзистору, участок пленки деформируется и прикасается к нижнему слою стекла, образуя своеобразный световод, по которому проходит свет. «Мерцание» затворов, синхронизированное с подачей красного, синего и зеленого света от светодиодов, позволяет отображать широкий спектр оттенков.<br /><br />На обновление состояния пикселя пленка затрачивает несколько микросекунд (для сравнения — время реакции пикселя ЖК-панели измеряется миллисекундами).<br /><br />О сотрудничестве с Uni-Pixel в разработке технологии TMOS уже объявила компания Samsung Electronics. Первым совместным продуктом должен стать четырехдюймовый дисплей.<br /><br /><br />
