Напомним, она была анонсирована недавно и уже, видимо, появилась в магазинах, хотя официальный старт продаж намечен на начало сентября. Судя по представленному видео, у новинки есть один довольно существенный недостаток: загрузка системы и контента с DVD происходит медленнее, чем у оригинальной PlayStation 3. Правда, при тестировании игр выяснилось, что «Batman: Arkham Asylum» быстрее загружается на тонкой консоли. По всей видимости, различия связаны с тем, что консоли используют разное аппаратное обеспечение и прошивки. Например, Slim-версия получила новый процессор Cell, являющийся совместной разработкой компаний IBM, Toshiba и Sony. Стоимость PlayStation 3 Slim составляет $299, до этого уровня уже снижена и стоимость 80-гигабайтной PS3.
