Это гораздо меньше, чем толщина 11-дюймового XEL-1, который в данный момент продается в США, Европе и Японии.<br /><br />Концепт уже был продемонстрирован на выставке Ceatec 2008 в Японии. Пока производитель не планирует выпускать телевизор в массовое производство, однако Sony намерена представить OLED с экранами больших размеров на выставке CES Expo, которая пройдет в Лас-Вегасе в январе 2009 года.<br /><br />Технология OLED подразумевает использование органических светодиодов, излучающих собственный свет, поэтому OLED телевизорам задняя подсветка не требуется. Это позволяет производителям выпускать очень тонкие телевизоры. Также нельзя забывать о том, что органические диоды потребляют гораздо меньше энергии, чем плазма или LCD. Кроме того, они позволяют добиться высокой яркости и четкости изображения.
