Снизив стоимость, игроки рынка смогут пересадить на эту технологию как можно большее число людей, пока продажи и прокат фильмов через интернет не обогнали продажи и прокат физических носителей. Индустрия звукозаписи, например, уже ощутила негативные последствия от успеха контента в цифровом виде. <br /><br />Сейчас стоимость Blu-ray-плееров начального уровня на американском рынке составляет менее $230, но ожидается, что до конца года цена еще упадет. Крупнейшие розничные сети в США Target, Wal-Mart и Best Buy предполагают, что в Черную пятницу (28 ноября) розничная стоимость плееров Blu-ray будет снижена до отметки $150 и еще ниже. Черная пятница – следующий день за Днем благодарения, который в США означает начало сезона праздничных покупок. Для сравнения, средняя стоимость плееров Blu-ray в начале 2008 г. превышала $400. <br /><br />Впервые после окончания войны форматов высокой четкости средняя стоимость Blu-ray-устройств пошла на убыль в феврале 2008 г., что естественным образом оказало положительное влияние не спрос, рассказывает вице-президент Best Buy Майк Мохан (Mike Mohan). Многих до сих пор вполне устраивает и DVD. В США насчитывается 6,5 млн семей с устройством воспроизведения формата, однако, как показывают данные опросов, в большинстве случаев это вовсе не плееры, а игровые приставки Sony PlayStation 3, которые имеют встроенный привод с поддержкой технологии. Опросы также говорят о том, что владельцы PS3 покупают диски Blu-ray с фильмами редко. <br /><br />В заключении отметим, что разработчиком технологии Blu-ray является корпорация Sony. По итогам II квартала текущего финансового года чистая прибыль компании снизилась на 72%, прогноз до конца марта 2009 г. пессимистичный. <br />
