Ученые из Университета Калифорнии в Беркли изобрели «летающую плазмойдную головку», благодаря которой, по их словам, в будущем может стать возможным создание оптических дисков формата Blu-ray емкостью 1 ТБ – в 20 раз больше, чем сейчас, пишет techradar.com.

Головка представляет собой группу металлических линз, которые направляют лазерный луч сквозь электроны, находящиеся в возбужденном состоянии. В результате на объекте воздействия возникают крошечные ямки, которые высверливаются лазером. Их размер не превышает нескольких нанометров.

По словам ученых, данная технология может совершить революцию в области оптической литографии. С ее помощью можно будет не только увеличить емкость оптических дисков, но и значительно улучшить процесс производства полупроводников.

Профессор Сян Чжан (Xiang Zhang) из университета в Беркли, принявший участие в исследовательских работах, предполагает, что технология будет запущена в коммерческое производство в течение 5 лет.
