Исследователи из Университета Токоху в Японии разработали новый тип винчестеров, в которых запись информации выполняется не магнитным, а электрическим полем, сообщает NewScientist. <br /><br />В современных магнитных накопителях данные записываются с помощью тонкопленочных головок, конструктивно представляющих собой обычную катушку с металлическим сердечником. На катушку подается электрический ток, в результате чего создается магнитное поле. Оно поворачивает вектор намагниченности доменов – элементарных участков на поверхности пластины, – таким образом нули превращаются в единицы и наоборот. Японские ученые предложили изменить конструкцию головки – в частности, исключить из нее магнит. <br /><br />Для этого пластину винчестера необходимо изготовить из полупроводника на основе железа с двумя типами носителей заряда: электронами и дырками (незаполненными валентными связями, притягивающими электроны). Плотность электронов и дырок в домене, которые и задают его направление, предлагается изменять с помощью электрического поля, создаваемого расположенным вблизи электродом, на который подается напряжение. С помощью такой конструкции ученые добились отклонения молекул полупроводника на 10 градусов. Если технологию удастся улучшить, чтобы молекулы можно было поворачивать на 180 градусов, тогда ее можно будет использовать в накопителях информации. По словам Хидео Оно (Hideo Ohno), возглавляющего группу исследователей, именно этим сейчас они и занимаются. <br /><br />Предполагается, что винчестеры с электрическими головками могут быть более компактными, быстрее работать и в то же время потреблять меньшее количество электроэнергии. Однако все это лишь в теории – когда технологию можно будет увидеть в коммерческих продуктах неизвестно. <br /><br />Отметим, что аналогичный принцип работы, что и в жестких дисках, используется в MRAM – магниторезистивной памяти со случайным доступом – гораздо более эффективным видом памяти по сравнению с тем, который используется в каждом персональном компьютере. Разработкой MRAM занимаются различные компании, например, IBM и Toshiba. Производители полагают, что данный вид памяти в течение следующих нескольких лет станет одним из основных на рынке. <br />
