Ученые из японского Университета Тохоку (Tohoku University) разработали DVD, способный вмещать 42 ГБ информации, в 9 раз больше по сравнению с современными дисками формата DVD с одним слоем. <br /><br />Достижение стало возможным благодаря изменению формы ямок, расположенных на поверхности лазерного диска. Как известно, DVD, как, впрочем, и любой другой лазерный диск, содержит огромное количество ямок (т.н. «питов»). В процессе чтения информации лазерный луч попадает либо в пит, который воспринимается как ноль, либо на ровную поверхность, которая воспринимается единицей. То есть каждый участок поверхности диска содержит один бит информации. Японские инженеры предложили сделать ямку в форме конуса так, чтобы попавший в нее лазерный луч отражался под различным, но определенным углом. Иными словами, чтобы один участок содержал больше, чем один бит информации. <br /><br />Данный метод может применяться не только к DVD, но и к компакт-дискам, емкость которых также можно будет увеличить в 9 раз. Ученые сообщили, что в лабораторных условиях им удалось достигнуть высокой точности записи и чтения данных. <br /><br />Увеличить емкость существующих лазерных дисков пытались и другие компании. Так, например, в 2005 г. компания TDK запатентовала технологию увеличения емкости DVD в 100 раз, предложив уменьшить величину питов до размеров, меньше длины волны используемого лазера. Повысить емкость лазерных накопителей можно и другими способами, например, размещая биты данных не на поверхности, а во всей толще материала. Разработкой таких носителей занимаются InPhase Technologies и Call/Recall. Как правило, предложенные технологии оказываются несовместимыми с оборудованием, используемым для производства обычных дисков. <br /><br /><div align="center"><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/2008-06/1214564261_dvd1.jpg" style="border: none;" alt='Емкость DVD может быть увеличена в 9 раз' title='Емкость DVD может быть увеличена в 9 раз' /></div><br />Новый способ записи информации на DVD позволил увеличить его емкость до 42 ГБ<br /><br />На этот раз ученые уверяют, что производить разработанные ими диски можно таким же печатным способом, который используется сегодня, хотя для этого существующее оборудование все же нужно будет немного переделать. Но вот воспроизвести такой диск на используемых сегодня плеерах не удастся. Вторым недостатком является то, что данную технологию нельзя применить к дискам формата Blu-ray.<br /><br />О коммерческой реализации технологии ученые пока не говорят. Выбор того или иного формата в конечном счете зависит от индустрии развлечений, которая пока склоняется к Blu-ray.
