В планах компании Sharp выпуск мощных диодов синего лазера, которые позволят создавать более скоростные устройства для записи дисков стандарта Blu-ray. Уже в течение следующих двух лет ожидается выпуск первых диодов, которые бы позволили осуществлять запись на скорости 8Х и выше.

На технологическом брифинге в Японии представители компании рассказали о своих последних наработках в области лазерных диодов и показали серию мощных диодов синего лазера, разработанных для пишущих приводов Blu-ray, которые могли бы с их помощью записывать 2-слойные диски на скорости 6Х.

В Sharp, в течение пары лет, рассчитывают получить диоды с мощностью 300 мВт, которые бы позволили записывать однослойные и двухслойные диски Blu-ray на скорости 8Х. Массовое производство таких устройств, как сообщается, планируется начать в 2009 году. А в следующем, 2010 году, планируется приступить к выпуску 400-мВт диодов. они будут иметь достаточную мощность для работы с многослойными BD-дисками и будут записывать их уже на скорости 12Х.
