Подтверждая слухи о том, что компания Microsoft собирается добавить поддержку Blu-ray дисков в свои игровые консоли Xbox 360, генеральный директор Сти Балмер заявил, что компания намерена поддерживать этот формат.

Согласно газете The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Стив Балмер принял участие в Интернет-конференции Mix08, прошедшей в четверг в Лас-Вегасе, которая посвящалась планам Microsoft последовать Toshiba и отказаться от HD DVD.

Балмер, не вдаваясь в подробности, сообщил, что компания будет разрабатывать поддержку формата Blu-ray.
Он сообщил «Мы уже работаем над приводом с поддержкой Blu-ray на базе ОС Windows. Так развивается мир и мы развиваемся вместе с ним. Мы будем поддерживать Blu-ray, так как видим в этом смысл.».
