Первоначально DTS намеревалась  в марте провести представление возможностей нового формата многоканального звука для кинофильмов, но в качестве окончательной даты было выбрано 9 апреля, когда в штаб-квартире компании пройдет презентация новой системы кодирования звука, названной "объектно-ориентированной".  <br /><br />Первая демонстрация DTS:X состоялась в рамках ежегодной выставки CES, которая прошла в январе в Лас-Вегасе. Но тогда не были представлены подробные характеристики. Сегодня есть лишь уверенность, что это аналог уже внедряемого формата Dolby Atmos. Разница, по сравнению с традиционными аудиосистемами, в том, что новые форматы призваны обеспечить более точную локализацию источников звука в пространстве, увязать их с перемещающимися по экрану объектами. Таким образом, с предельной точностью можно отследить траекторию полета мухи, воссоздавая ее жужжание. В дополнение к характеристикам нового формата DTS также объяснит, какие акустические системы смогут поддерживать его и есть ли на рынке продукты, для которых достаточно будет простого обновления прошивки.<br /><br />DTS уже заключила предварительные соглашения с большинством ведущих производителей домашней аудиотехники. Также должна быть обеспечена поддержка киноиндустрии, учитывая реализацию прежней DTS-HD Master в большинстве Blu-ray копий фильмов (на английском языке, по крайней мере).<br /><br />Демонстрационный диск с DTS:X, уже распространяемый в Лас-Вегасе, содержит клипы из фильмов. Учитывая, что записи воспроизводятся с помощью современных аудио устройств, можно быть уверенными, что новая кодировка будет интегрирована в кодеки DTS-HD Master Audio. Что обещает еще одну войну форматов с участием Dolby Atmos, AURO-3D и DTS:X от Digital Theater System, выпуск продуктов которой зачастую приводил к замедлению в распространении других новых стандартов и делал неоправданной покупку «ранних» вариантов таких технологий.
