Уже к 2016 году компания Sharp намеревается впихнуть 4К технологию в смартфонные 5-6 дюймовые дисплеи. Планируется два варианта разрешения 3840 х 2160 и 4096 х 2160 пикселей. Это обеспечит беспрецедентно четкое и детальное изображение. Всегда ли можно будет заметить эти детали? Но это уже другой вопрос.
Более высокое разрешение подразумевает и увеличенное энергопотребление, но для сохранения энергетического баланса Sharp уже давно разрабатывает новые технологии на основе уже известной IGZO.

Более высокое разрешение необходимо в первую очередь для того, чтобы побудить клиента купить.

Так же, как на и телевизионном рынке, производители смартфонов и планшетов должны постоянно выпускать новинки, чтобы при перенасыщенном рынке побудить покупателя к новым покупкам. В настоящее время локомотивом продаж (после 3D и Smart TV) стало повышенное разрешенение. А с 2016 года, видимо, начнется переход на 4K дисплеи и в смартфонах, благодаря инициативе Sharp. Последние мобильные процессоры уже могут справляться с таким разрешением.

Сегодня в смартфонах уже устанавливаются дисплеи с разрешением Quad HD (2560 х 1440 пикселей), хотя чаще их можно найти в моделях с диагональю 28 дюймов и более.
