Так, эта технология, несмотря на то, что кое-где уже работают и над 8К, находится еще в зачаточном состоянии и нуждается в дальнейшем совершенствовании. Ученые из немецкого института Фраунгофера в настоящее время совместно с Dream Chip Technologies разрабатывают новые  миниатюрные 3D микрочипы для Ultra HD видео камер. <br /><br />Сегодняшние бытовые 4К камеры по-прежнему очень дорогие и могут быть серьезно усовершенствованы. 4K камера должна записывать в четыре раза больше пикселей в сравнении с камерами Full HD, а увеличенные объемы данных должны обрабатываться за то же время. Именно по этой причине UHD камеры сегодня довольно дорогие и не всегда полностью соответствуют требованиям пользователей, в качестве примера, можно взять высокоскоростную запись. <br /><br />Разработанный институтом Фраунгофера 3D чип отличается очень большой производительностью при компактном расположении внутренних компонентов. Для этого процессор и память ввода / вывода размещены в одном корпусе. Это позволяет обеспечить высокую пропускную способность для передачи данных между процессором и памятью. Трехмерная методика интеграции электронных компонентов обеспечивает более короткие линии для передачи данных, что позволяет увеличивать частоту кадров. Также серьезно сократиться потребление энергии.<br /><br />Первые прототипы новых чипов ожидаются в 2015 году. Скорость передачи данных должна быть доведена 400 Гбит / с. В настоящее время проект поддерживается немецким Федеральным министерством экономики и технологий с финансированием до 120000 евро.
