Такие дисплеи будут в чем то аналогичны плазменным моделям, но с одной большой разницей: вместо люминофоров, возбуждаемых ультрафиолетовыми лучами в газовой смеси, превращаемой в плазму, здесь модуляция трех компонентов цвета RGB реализуется через смещающиеся микро-жалюзи. <br /><br />У таких дисплеев есть много преимуществ, начиная с низкой стоимости производства, многие технические характеристики значительно выше, чем у ЖК дисплеев. Контрастность может быть бесконечной, так как жалюзи могут быть закрыты полностью. За счет высокой скорости переключения может быть повышена разрядность кодирования цвета. <br /><br />Согласно Nikkei, производство первых MEMS дисплеев может начаться уже во второй половине этого года, на производственной площадке Yonago, префектуры Тоттори. Если это подтвердится, технологические преимущества продукции Sharp будут огромными, так как новые дисплеи MEMS будут гарантировать увеличение автономной работы и яркости для всех портативных продуктов. Чтобы понять важность инноваций - благодаря высокой яркости и высокой надежности технологии MEMS можно будет заменить зеркало заднего вида автомобиля дисплеем MEMS с видеокамерой.
