Близящийся Кубок мира по футболу станет еще одной возможностью для широкомасштабных съемок в сверх высоком разрешении. Но даже и товарищеские матчи могут быть хорошей возможностью для тестирования передачи Ultra HD телесигналов. Португальская компания общественного телевещания RTP воспользовалась матчем Португалия - Греция, чтобы провести эксперимент. Видеосигнал сжимался с использованием кодека HEVC с частотой 50 кадров в секунду и передался через спутник с помощью оператора HISPASAT, либо по оптоволоконным каналам Portugal Telecom.<br /><br />В проекте участвовали Medialuso (производство), Elemental Technologies (кодирование в стандарте HEVC) и Samsung (который предоставил Ultra HD дисплеи). Прямая трансляция велась на Лиссабон, где в Meo Arena было установлено приемное оборудование и Ultra HD телевизоры Samsung.
