Full HD проектор Sony VPL-HW40ES будет выпускаться в черном и белом корпусах. Он может быть конкурентом превосходной модели VPL-HW55ES, хотя, конечно, стоить будет немного ниже. В VPL-HW40 будет использоваться та же самая известная проекционная  технология SXRD, используемая в первоклассных цифровых кинопроекторах Sony. Пользователи получат доступ к  впечатляющей технологии видеообработки Sony "Reality Creation», изначально разработанной для домашних 4K проекторов высшего класса.  Оптическая система VPL-HW40ES обеспечивает цветовую яркость 1700 люмен, чего должно быть достаточно для работы проектора в умеренно освещенном помещении.<br /><br />Дополнительные функции включают Bright Cinema и режим Bright TV, а также для повышения контрастности Contrast Enhancer и технологию интерполяции Motionflow для передачи более плавного движения в кадре. Объектив имеет широкие пределы регулировки смещения, что упрощает выбор позиции для крепления проектора. VPL-HW40ES имеет встроенный ИК приемник для режима 3D. Уровень шума при работе составляет лишь 21 дБ. <br /><br />Томас Исса, менеджер отдела проекторов для домашнего кинотеатра в Sony Europe, комментирует: "Это огромный шаг вперед для домашнего кинотеатра с возможностью просмотра в режиме 3D. Технологии Contrast Enhancer, Motionflow и Reality Creation позволяют создать с помощью VPL-HW40ES великолепный домашний кинотеатр для взыскательных киноманов." <br /><br />Проектор Sony VPL-HW40ES доступен с апреля 2014 года, но стоимость пока не известна.
