Показ церемонии открытия Олимпиады в формате Ultra HD был организован "НТВ-Плюс" совместно с компаниями Broadcom и Elemental. <br />С помощью энкодера компании Elemental Live и видеодекодера Broadcom компаниями была разработана технология формирования видеопотока 4К HEVC в режиме реального времени.<br /><br />"НТВ-Плюс" обеспечивал канал связи для передачи сигнала из Сочи в Москву с последующей передачей сигнала на спутник для передачи на приемный ресивер. В процессе реализации проекта были задействованы цифровые камеры Sony PMW-F55 Cine Alta 4K, а для демонстрации использовался 65-дюймовый 4К телевизор Panasonic.<br /><br />По словам технического директора "НТВ-Плюс" Олега Колесникова, трансляция открытия зимних Олимпийских игр в разрешении 4K продемонстрировала, что может быть достигнуто, когда операторы и производители оборудования и технологий работают вместе, для того чтобы доставить контент ультравысокой четкости потребителям.<br /><br />Ранее в 2013 г. "Триколор ТВ" первым из отечественных операторов спутникового телевидения провел тестовую трансляцию в формате Ultra HD.<br /><br />"Триколор ТВ" организовал премьеру вместе с другими представителями телеиндустрии – Eutelsat Communications, Ericsson, "НПО СвязьПроект", Rohde & Schwarz DVS (бренд DVS), ООО НПФ "СФЕРА-ВИДЕО" и LG Electronics, Inc. 16-минутный фильм в формате Ultra HD, произведенный каналом Russian Travel Guide (RTG), был показан на 84-дюймовом 3D-телевизоре со сверхвысоким разрешением Ultra HD 84LM960V от компании LG. <br />Для прямой спутниковой трансляции контента UHDTV использовался транспондер спутника Eutelsat 36A. Данные в MPEG-4 передавались со скоростью 40 Мбит/с при частоте 25 кадров в секунду с разрешением изображения 3840&#215;2160 пикселей.<br />
