По неофициальным сообщениям, LG намерена серьезно обновить интеллектуальные возможности своих телевизоров за счет использования операционной системы WebOS, которая будет иметь открытый исходный код, что будет стимулировать разработку независимыми программистами новых приложений и сервисов для Smart TV от LG.<br /><br />WebOS была разработана компанией Palm в противовес iOS от Apple, и дебютировала на устройствах Palm. Однако, не удалось получить никакой отдачи и WebOS была вскоре продана HP, которая в конце концов продала эту операционную систему вместе со всеми патентами и созданной инфраструктурой компании LG.<br /><br />Говорят что LG представит телевизоры с  двухъядерным процессором, работающим на частоте 2,2 ГГц, с поддержкой 1,5 ГБ оперативной памяти. WebOS, по-видимому сохранит визуальный интерфейс в виде  карточной структуры приложений, которая была принята на момент появления WebOS в 2009 году. Эта структура интерфейса, возможно, вдохновила на создание многозадачной функциональности, подобной Android от Google, Apple 7 и Microsoft Windows Phone 8.
