Пять лет спустя, продолжая реструктуризацию, японский производитель счел необходимым продать Gracenote, которая автономно работала в рамках дочерней компании Sony. Это подразделение Sony собирало и систематизировало одну из крупнейших баз данных  мультимедиа-контента. Но японская корпорация сочла, что этот актив не в состоянии приносить стабильную прибыль. <br /><br />Gracenote была основана в США в 1998 году под названием Compact Disc Data Base (CDDB) для того чтобы помогать в оцифровке оптических дисков и других носителей, дополняя их актуальными мета-данными, такими как авторство, название песни, время записи, издатель, визуальные обложки и др.<br /><br />Покупателем Gracenote выступила американская группа компаний Tribune, которая владеет многими телеканалами, газетами и веб-сайтами. Ожидается, что сделка завершится в первом квартале 2014 года с выплатой Sony $ 170 млн. Логично предположить, что сервис продолжит работу в прежнем виде на нового владельца.
