Необходимость в общих стандартах сегодня уже особенно важна, поскольку продажи  телевизоров ультра высокой четкости, как ожидается, будут расти.<br /><br />Одним из наиболее впечатляющих фактов является то, что диапазон цветов (цветовая палитра или гамма) UHDTV позволяет почти вдвое превысить цветовое разрешение человеческого глаза и возможности существующего съемочного оборудования.<br /><br />На самом деле разрабатывается два стандарта: UHDTV1 и UHDTV2. Проще всего их будет различать по разрешению кадра. UHDTV1 будет иметь 4K разрешение 3840 х 2160 пикселей, тогда как UHDTV2 поддерживает колоссальное, 8K разрешение 7680 х 4320 пикселей. Оба стандарта будут поддерживать 10 и 12 битную глубину цвета, с цветовой субдескритизацией 4:4:4, 4:2:2 и 4:2:0. От 8 битного цвета и интерлейсинга можно будет отказаться. Скорее всего, базовой частотой кадров будет 120 кадров в секунду, которая делится на многие популярные сегодня частоты кадров, такие как 24, 30 и 60 Гц. <br /><br />Все это представляется большим шагом вперед. Тем не менее, ясно, что существуют многочисленные проблемы при реализации новой технологии.
