Как известно VW1000 поддерживает интерфейс HDMI 1.4 и это не позволяет воспроизводить 4К видео с более чем 30 кадрами в секунду. После обновления проектор сможет поддерживать частоту 50 и 60 кадров в секунду, как и новые модели VPL-VW500ES и VPL-VW1100ES.<br /><br />Порт HDMI 1.4 у VW1000 не может быть модернизирован простой сменой прошивки, как у телевизоров выпущенных в этом году и, следовательно, необходимо заменить интерфейсный блок, что будет выполняться сервисными центрами Sony. <br />В дополнение к совместимости с HDMI версии 2.0, обновление позволит поддерживать цветовое пространства xvYCC, используемое в Blu-ray дисках Sony Mastered in 4K и  обеспечивает полную совместимость с радиочастотным излучателем для 3D очков  и с аксессуарами, которые добавляют беспроводное подключение HDMI. <br /><br />Стоимость модернизации проектора Sony VPL-VW1000ES составляет 2990 евро с помощью по транспортировке.
