Решить эту задача и ряд других позволяет технология IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide), предназначенная для управления отдельными ячейками ЖК панели. Sharp заявляет, что IGZO позволит временами экономить до 80-90 % энергии. Более миниатюрные транзисторы в системах IGZO работают быстрее обычных кремниевых, они позволяют изменять алгоритм управления ячейками, когда на экране демонстрируется статичное изображение, которое не требует постоянного обновления картинки и работы системы управления. Это происходит в частности при чтении с экрана или эпизодами в процессе набора текста. Миниатюрный транзистор IGZO блокирует меньше  света от источника подсветки, позволяет плотнее размещать отдельные пиксели и почти в два раза повышать разрешение в тех же размерах экрана.
