В отличие от обычных жидкокристаллических панелей, новые дисплеи устраняют потребность в поляризационной пластине, которая вдвое снижает коэффициент пропускания света и цветовой фильтр, который уменьшает его на 1/3. В результате, появляется возможность уменьшить энергопотребление панели до 1/6 части от показателя обычной ЖК панели.<br /><br /><div align="center"><!--dle_image_begin:http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/2013-10/1380819363_sharp-mems2.jpg|--><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/2013-10/1380819363_sharp-mems2.jpg" alt="Sharp представляет новые дисплеи типа MEMS" title="Sharp представляет новые дисплеи типа MEMS"  /><!--dle_image_end--></div><br /><br />Для управления ячейками MEMS Sharp использовала технологию IGZO, оксидные полупроводники которой имеют более подвижные носители, чем у аморфного кремния, обычно используемого  для управления в ЖК панелях. Когда отображается изображение с меньшим количеством уровней градации или черно-белое, MEMS ячейки открываются и закрываются реже, улучшая эффективность использования подсветки и дальнейшее снижение энергопотребления.<br /><br />На выставке Sharp показала три 7-дюймовых MEMS дисплея, с разрешением 800 х 1280 и плотностью около 220 ppi. Sharp разработала эти три дисплея в сотрудничестве с американской Qualcomm, которая заинтересована в промышленном выпуске подобных дисплеев и выступила спонсором разработки промышленного процесса на основе передовых технологий Sharp.
