Судя по исследованиям, проведенным американской академией педиатрии (AAP) в течение 22 лет - с 1990 по 2011 год, около 380 000 детей в этой стране в возрасте до 18 лет пострадало от телевизоров, точнее от неосторожного обращения с ними.

Если точнее, каждые 30 минут, один ребенок в США получал травму, что эквивалентно 17 000 травм каждый год. Как правило, в основном эти несчастные случаи связаны были с использованием старых кинескопных телевизоров, которые любопытные дети часто опрокидывали на себя. Особенно дети в возрасте до 5 лет, которые очень активны и не подозревают об опасности, а взрослые часто оставляют неиспользуемые, но еще не утилизированные телевизоры, где-нибудь на шкафу или на полке, откуда они могут быть стащены или опрокинуты на себя детьми.

Размеры телевизоров тоже имеют при этом значение. Согласно исследования, более 2/3 случаев травм зафиксировано с моделями, имеющими экран в 26 дюймов или меньше.
