Усовершенствованный Thunderbolt выступает конкурентом грядущей версии HDMI 2.0, первоначально был известен под кодовым названием Falcon Ridge, а затем переименован в Thunderbolt 2. <br /><br />Улучшенная версия интерфейса Intel обладает достаточной пропускной способностью для передачи несжатого 4K видео, а также имеет обратную совместимость с существующими кабелями и разъемами. Поддерживается двунаправленная передача данных со скоростью 20 гигабит в секунду. Технология также включает DisplayPort 1.2, улучшенное управление питанием, отличается уменьшенными  размерами контроллера, который будет встраиваться в чипсеты Intel с начала следующего года.<br />
