Его главная особенность в том, что он работает на отражение света и, не требуя источников подсветки, позволяет существенно экономить энергию аккумуляторов мобильных устройств.<br /><br />Цветной дисплей с диагональю 5,1 дюйма и разрешением 2560 х 1400 точек имеет плотность 577 точек на дюйм. Потребление энергии в 6 раз ниже, чем у аналогичного размера  ЖК или OLED дисплеев.<br /><br />На протяжении многих лет, компания Qualcomm уже представила несколько прототипов подобных устройств, разработанных в сотрудничестве с корейскими, тайваньскими и китайскими производителями, но с точки зрения цветопередачи и задержки в режиме воспроизведения видео они обладали рядом недостатков. Однако компания продолжает разработку, в чем ей теперь помогут технологии приобретенной компании Pixtronix, которая разрабатывала подобный дисплей.<br />Недавно Qalcomm наладила более тесное сотрудничество в разработке дисплеев с компанией Sharp, приобретя долю в акционерном капитале японского производителя.
