Разработанная в 1992 году Sony магнитооптическая система для записи и хранения музыкальных программ с энтузиазмом была встречена любителями послушать музыку хорошего качества. А благодаря компактным размерам Sony MD плеер должен был стать преемником магнитофонных кассетных плееров. <br /><br /><div align="center"><!--dle_image_begin:http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/2013-02/1359905659_sonymd.jpg|--><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/2013-02/1359905659_sonymd.jpg" alt="Конец эры Sony MD плееров" title="Конец эры Sony MD плееров"  /><!--dle_image_end--></div><br /><br />Однако резкое снижение стоимости флэш-памяти позволило MP3 плеерам потеснить систему Sony MD. Наиболее распространен MD формат был в Японии и Европе, Sony продала свыше 27 миллионов мини-диск плееров, производили их по лицензии и другие японские компании.<br /><br />Sony прекращает производство MD плееров с марта нынешнего года, но продолжит поддержку ремонтного сервиса для используемых покупателями плееров. Вместе с тем, аналогичные мини-диск плееры пока еще будет производить другая японская компания Onkyo.
