Sony объявила, что она будет называть телевизоры сверхвысокой четкости: "4К Ultra High Definition," несмотря на общее стремление к унификации обозначений и неприятное по мнению некоторых японских компаний "4К", которое в японском языке созвучно с понятиями "неживой", "вышедший из употребления". <br /><br />Станет ли новое обозначение телевизоров повышенного разрешения Sony более понятным для покупателей или внесет еще большую сумятицу, узнаем уже вскоре. В настоящее время у Sony пока только один телевизор с разрешением Ultra HD или 4K  это очень дорогой 84 дюймовый  телевизор с поддержкой пассивной 3D технологии – Sony XBR-84X900, а также есть первый в мире 4К проектор и Blu-ray плеер с поддержкой масштабирования видеосигнала HD разрешения в UHD.
