Один из разработчиков прокола BitTorrent – американский программист Брэм Коэн анонсировал новую версию протокола, которая получила название BitTorrent Live, предназначена для передачи через пиринговые сети видео в режиме онлайн. По утверждению разработчика новинка задумана для борьбы с монополистами-телевизионщиками.

"Физическая инфраструктура телевидения неизбежно отомрет, - сказал он в интервью TechCrunch, - но телевидение как модель потребления видеоматериалов останется". Известно уже, что кроме BitTorrent Live есть аналогичный европейский проект P2P-Next, реализуемый при поддержке Евросоюза.

Для просмотра видео необходимо установить на компьютер программу-клиент и смотреть или раздавать видео по всему миру. Таким образом, каждый сможет организовать у себя в квартире телестудию. Элементами подобной технологии уже пользуются некоторые американские видеосервисы, что позволяет им снижать затраты на серверное и передающее оборудование, роль которого частично выполняют рассредоточенные по всему миру компьютеры пользователей.

Радужную картину всеобщего мультимедийного благоденствия в будущем все ж таки, наверное, могут подпортить забитые видеотрафиком телекоммуникационные каналы.
