Обе компании намерены совместно разрабатывать OLED технологии нового поколения для использования в плоскопанельных дисплеях.<br /><br />AUO уже вложила немало средств в исследования и разработку AMOLED технологии и в настоящее время владеет несколькими сотнями OLED патентов.  Idemitsu формировалась главным образом за счет партнерских отношений с Sony по совместному развитию OLED технологии, сейчас является поставщиком материалов для OLED дисплеев LG.<br /><br />В альянсе c AUO японский производитель также будет поставлять материалы для OLED панелей тайваньской компании.  AU Optronics непосредственно не производит ни дисплеи, ни телевизоры, однако, сейчас ЖК панели AUO покупают многие известные производители для установки в свои телевизоры и дисплеи. AUO планирует начать c массового производства 4-5 " OLED панелей во втором квартале 2012 года на заводе в Тайване. В следующем 2013 году завод  AUO начнет массовое производство и больших телевизионных OLED панелей. В арсенале компании уже есть прототип 32 дюймового OLED телевизора. <br />
