Международный союз электросвязи (МСЭ) в основном завершил работу по принятию нового стандарта и технических спецификаций. Ultra-HDTV будет иметь повышенное в 16 раз разрешение, в общей сложности 33177600 пикселей. Новый стандарт называют также  8Kx4K или Super Hi-Vision.<br /><br />Для передачи не сжатого сигнала UHDTV требует канал 25 Гбит / с , но сжатый сигнал позволяет использовать каналы с пропускной способностью только 150 Мбит / с. А сегодняшнее HDTV (720p-1080p) использует каналы от 9 до 36 Мбит / с.<br /><br />Часть программы Олимпийских игр в Лондоне будет сниматься в разрешении UHDTV и транслироваться в Японию компанией NHK. На завершившейся в сентябре в Берлине выставке IFA 2011 японская компания Sharp демонстрировала 85 дюймовый прототип будущих UHDTV телевизоров.<br /><br />Предполагается, что реальный переход на UHDTV произойдет к 2021 году. <br />
