Инициатором данного плана судя по всему выступило японское правительство, которое выделяет основные средства для создания совместного предприятия по производству ЖК панелей среднего и малого размера, которые судя по всему будут чрезвычайно востребованы с повсеместным распространением планшетных компьютеров и прочих портативных и карманных дисплеев.<br /><br />Японский правительственный инвестиционный фонд вкладывает в совместном предприятие $2,6 млрд., получая 70 % акций, и каждый из трех членов альянса будет иметь по 10 % акций. Новая компания будет называться Japan Display. Слияние предполагается завершить к весне 2012 года.<br /><br />Japan Display стремится стать крупнейшим в мире производителем ЖК панелей малого и среднего размера. Основными конкурентами Japan Display будут Samsung с LG и Sharp, который недавно получил крупные инвестиции от Apple в развитие своего производства.<br /><br />Japan Display будет также будет заниматься разработкой OLED технологий и дисплеев высокого разрешения.<br />
