Ультратонкие телевизоры стали страстью для HDTV производителей, а последний писк плоскопанельной моды в этом году огромные экраны с абсолютно плоской лицевой поверхностью. Один из пионеров такого решения компания LG с ее «безграничным» (borderless) дизайном, в то время как конкуренты Sony, Philips и Sharp остановились на терминах: монолитный (Monolithic), безрамный (frameless) и совершенно плоский (full flat). В эстетическом плане подобный дизайн придает телевизорам более привлекательную внешность, выделяя их среди традиционных моделей с окружающими экран выпуклыми гранями.
