Станет ли компания вторым по счету производителем устройств такой емкости вслед за Western Digital или нет, покажет время – коммерческий выход новой модели намечен только на III квартал года. <br /><br />Жесткий диск входит в новую линейку 3,5-дюймовых накопителей Constellation ES, предназначенных для систем хранения данных. Устройства семейства выпускаются как с интерфейсом SATA с максимальной скоростью передачи данных 3 Гбит/с, так и с интерфейсом SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) с максимальной скоростью передачи данных 6 Гбит/с. Диски оснащаются технологией автоматического снижения потребляемой мощности и – опционально – технологией автономного шифрования данных с высокой степенью защиты на протяжении всего жизненного цикла. <br /><br />Жесткий диск Western Digital, представленный в прошлом месяце, в отличие от Constellation ES, ориентирован на пользовательские настольные системы или внешние накопители. В диске WD используются четыре пластины емкостью по 500 ГБ, плотностью 400 Гбит на квадратный дюйм. Максимальная скорость интерфейса SATA составляет 3 Гбит/с. Рекомендуемая стоимость – $300. Диск уже поступил в продажу. <br /><br />Устройства серии Constellation ES также включают по четыре пластины, но имеют иное предназначение. Они поставляются с кэш-памятью 32 МБ в случае интерфейса SATA и 16 МБ в случае SAS и идут на смену корпоративных накопителей предыдущего поколения Seagate Barracuda ES. <br /><br />Помимо модели емкостью 2 ТБ линейка Constellation ES включит диски емкостью 500 ГБ и 1 ТБ. Все они поступят в продажу в III квартале 2009 г. Помимо серии Constellation ES была представлена и еще одна линейка – Seagate Constellation. Это 2,5-дюймовые диски, которые также предназначены для СХД. Линейка включит накопители емкостью 160 и 500 ГБ. Начало продаж ожидается до конца текущего квартала.
