Предполагается, что со временем данные будут храниться в трехмерных массивах. В отличие от традиционной флэш-памяти, ячейки которой располагаются в двумерной плоскости, в трехмерной памяти ячейки располагаются в пространстве, позволяя вмещать в одну единицу объема гораздо больше информации. <br /><br />В настоящий момент компания разрабатывает новый тип 3D-памяти с возможностью чтения и записи информации, которая, в конечном счете, сможет заменить память типа NAND, использующуюся повсеместно в самых разнообразных устройствах хранения данных и цифровых гаджетах. По мнению ученых, такая память придет на смену NAND в течение следующей декады, так как дальнейшее наращивание двумерной памяти будет экономически нецелесообразно. <br /><br />Определенный вклад в создание 3D-памяти привнесет компания Toshiba, которая работает вместе с SanDisk, а также Matrix Semiconductor, которая была приобретена корпорацией SanDisk год назад. <br /><br />Тем не менее, работа в области традиционной памяти в SanDisk не прекращается. До конца 2008 г. будет разработана технология размещения в одной ячейке трех бит данных, а в 2009 г. в ячейку можно будет поместить уже четыре бита. <br />
