Накопители с поддержкой новых оптических носителей станут значительно чаще встречаться в конфигурации систем, начиная уже со второго квартала текущего года, утверждает источник. Ссылаясь на представителей отрасли, работающих на Тайване, он сообщает, что на первом этапе предполагается отдавать предпочтение накопителям, способным только читать «голубые диски» — BD-ROM.<br /><br />Следует помнить, что обозначение BD-ROM закреплено за приводами, не поддерживающими запись не только на новые носители, но и на более привычные CD и DVD. Другими словами, для записи оптических дисков понадобится второй дисковод. Причина, по которой OEM-сообщество сделало ставку на BD-ROM, очевидна — это цена.<br /><br />В настоящее время, цена накопителя BD-ROM для OEM-поставок составляет $120-130, что существенно выше, чем $22-25, в которые обходится накопитель DVD, поддерживающий запись со скоростями до 20x. В то же время, даже комбинация из двух устройств обойдется дешевле, чем BD Combo — устройство, способное читать BD и записывать DVD, которое стоит $200.
