Компании CMC Magnetics и Ritek начали на Тайване массовое производство однократно-записываемых дисков стандарта Blu-ray Disc (BD-R). ОЕМ-поставки будут осуществляться в Японию, розничные продажи стартуют с отметки $4,6 за один диск.

Как известно, довольно продолжительное время не было условий для успешного и быстрого распространения на рынке форматов для хранения HD-видео и большого объёма данных, как то Blu-ray или HD DVD. Одним из сдерживающих факторов была цена приводов (читающих и пишущих), вторым — носителей. Практически одновременно цены на обе этих составляющих успеха Blu-ray стали снижаться, стали появляться более доступные устройства. Теперь же «подтянулись» и производители носителей, — новая цена дисков CMC, Ritek, как отмечает источник со ссылкой на газету Economic Daly News (EDN), значительно ниже тех аналогов, которые производятся японскими производителями.

Представители из самих CMC и Ritek пока никак не стали комментировать ситуацию, но подтвердили, что их предприятия действительно начали массовый выпуск этой продукции.
