Конструкторский Форум USB, группа, ответственная за разработку стандарта USB, проинформировала, что пытается разработать версию USB интерфейса, совместимого с системой защиты от копирования HDCP и способного передавать защищенный контент высокой четкости. Это позволит совместимым устройствам, включая компьютеры и телевизоры, взаимодействовать с помощью способа, отличного от HDMI и DVI. Пока неясно, когда появятся подобные устройства и необходимое программное обеспечение для того, чтобы обеспечить существующее оборудование совместимостью с такой системой. Возможно понадобится очень много времени.
Хотя HDMI и DVI достаточно редко присутствуют в компьютерах, в отличие от телевизоров, поэтому перспективы у USB должны быть. Двойные USB порты уже начали применяться некоторыми производителями для реализации возможности 'plug and play' в мониторах, поэтому неудивительно, что правообладатели контента задумались о способах передачи данных. Тем не менее, идея по-быстрому наложить защиту от кодирования и копирования на хорошо продуманную систему, которая сейчас предоставляет возможность свободной передачи данных, вероятно, не очень хорошая.
