С ее помощью пользователи получают возможность подключить дополнительный монитор с разъемом VGA или DVI, по сути дела, используя порт USB 2.0 в корпусе ноутбука.<br /><br />Док поддерживает разрешения до 1600 x 1200 пикселей (UXGA). Поскольку для подключения к ноутбуку используется интерфейс USB 2.0, станцию можно использовать, практически, с любым ноутбуком. Другими словами, потребитель не испытывает ограничений с выбором монитора и ноутбука.<br /><br />По словам источника, Sony VAIO Universal Dock поддерживает Windows 2000, Windows XP и Windows Vista Aero. Помимо подключения монитора, станция обеспечивает подключение сети Ethernet и звуковой периферии. Кроме того, в оснащение дока входит четыре порта USB 2.0. Пока новинка доступна на японском рынке. В разработке устройства Sony сотрудничала с DisplayLink.<br /><br />Напомним, интерфейс DisplayLink включает высокопроизводительные чипы DL-160 и DL120, в которых аппаратно реализована функциональность построения изображений (Hardware Rendering Engine, HRE) и программного обеспечения, позволяющего системе видеть интерфейс, как виртуальную графическую плату (Virtual Graphics Card, VGC). Решение поддерживает 32-разрядное представление цвета и воспроизведение видео в реальном масштабе времени по каналу USB. Эта технология уже довольно широко используется производителями. Достаточно вспомнить док-станцию Kensington sd200v, устройство EVGA UV Plus+ или монитор SyncMaster 940UX.
