Новая статья в BusinessWeek фокусирует наше внимание на попытках основных игроков в войне форматов склонить на свою сторону киностудию Warner, которая поддерживает оба формата высокой четкости.
В статье говорится, что Warner приступила к переговорам с покровителями обоих форматов еще летом, в частности сообщается о нескольких встречах первых лиц киностудии с генеральным директором компании Sony.

Если Warner решит стать эксклюзивным партнером одной из сторон, это может сильно повлиять на расклад сил. В случае, перехода на Blu-ray, это приведет к тому, что формат получит долю в 70% на рынке DVD. Если же Warner поддержит HD DVD, формат не получит слишком больших выгод.
Что касается самой студии, то она хранит молчание по этому вопросу, за исключением заявления, сделанного в конце октября вице президентом Warner, Данам Сильвербергом, в котором говорилось о возможности изменения своей позиции.
‘Когда оба формата были запущены и цены на железо были высокими, мы приняли решение поддерживать оба формата и дать возможность выбора нашим потребителям. Но теперь, когда цены на оборудование стали доступными, мы задумываемся о целесообразности поддержки двух форматов’.
Несмотря на то, что по некоторым источникам, близких к самой студии, предпочтение отдается формату Blu-ray, киностудия Warner видимо сначала собирается оценить масштабы предпраздничных продаж и только потом принять свое решение.
