Домашнее кино становится трёхмерным.

Хотя идея использования трёхмерности в кино присутствовала во множестве научно-фантастических фильмов, только сейчас просмотр трёхмерных фильмов в домашних условиях становится реальностью. Компания Headplay выступила с заявлением, что ей удалось изготовить первое портативное видеоустройство, способное воспроизводить двухмерные (2D) и трёхмерные (3D) изображения с помощью специальных очков.

Система Headplay Personal Cinema состоит из двух частей: специальные очки с экраном и системный блок под названием Liberator , который подключается к источнику видеоконтента. Блок Liberator совместим с различными источниками мультимедиа, в том числе DVD-плеерами. Он имеет множество интерфейсов, включая аналоговый вход, аудио и порт USB 2.0. Его можно подключить к компьютерам, игровым консолям, мобильным телефонам и даже iPod. Прошивка устройства поддерживает все виды видеосигналов: композитный, компонентный, S-video в форматах NTSC и PAL. Технология Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) создаёт идентичные изображения для обоих глаз с частотой 120 Гц, чтобы создавать иллюзию трёхмерности. Единственный недостаток нового видеоустройства - оно может воспроизводить только новые, специально созданные 3D-видеоматериалы. Угол обзора для обоих глаз составляет 34 градуса, а размер виртуального изображения составляет 130 см, так что пользователь почувствует, как будто события в фильме происходят прямо перед ним. Пока Headplay Personal Cinema поддерживает разрешение 800 x 600 и стереозвук.
