Не желая отставать от производителей Blu-ray устройств, Toshiba анонсировала два HD DVD плеера третьего поколения для Европейского рынка: HD-EP30 и HD-EP35. Обе новинки поддерживают видео с разрешением 1080p, включая воспроизведение с частотой смены кадров 24fps, в том числе и с помощью технологии REGZA-Link на базе HDMI, связывающей плеер с другими компонентами от Toshiba. Между прочим, владельцам предыдущих моделей HD-XE1 и HD-EP10 не стоит рассчитывать на поддержку воспроизведения 24fps в будущих прошивках для их плееров.
Плеер HD-EP35 отличается расширенной поддержкой звуковых технологий High Bit Rate Audio, а так же наличием функции Deep Colour. Оба плеера поддерживают аудио-форматы Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD и DTS HD, доступна функция апскэйлинга изображения стандартных DVD до HD разрешений: 720p, 1080i и 1080p.
Предположительно, на британских прилавках новинки появятся в октябре. Ориентировочно, цена младшей модели HD-EP30 составит $480, а более навороченной HD-EP35 около $600.
