Несмотря на все сомнения о перспективности рынка плазменных ТВ, корейская компания LG Electronics, продолжает реструктуризацию производства. Вслед за остановкой морально устаревшей производственной линии A1 в мае 2007 года, на днях объявлено о старте нового производства стеклянных подложек 8-го поколения на фабрике A3. Новая линия обеспечит выпуск моделей размером 1956 × 2200 мм, позволяющих нарезать до восьми панелей вместо шести, получаемых ранее из подложек предыдущего поколения размером 1956 × 1650 мм.

Напомним, что согласно данным аналитического агентства DisplaySearch, спрос на плазменные панели будет постепенно увеличиваться в течение 2007 года с 2,3 миллиона штук в первом квартале до 4 миллионов штук в четвертом. При этом, как ожидается, главный акцент будет сделан на производство дорогих плазменных ТВ высокой четкости (Full HD) с диагональю 50 дюймов и более.

Ожидается, что модернизированная производственная линия LG увеличит ежемесячный выход плазменных панелей на 22%, с 360 тыс. штук до 440 тыс. штук. т.е. даже немного больше весеннего уровня, до закрытия фабрики A1. Вышеупомянутая модернизация отражает текущую стратегию компании на увеличение выхода плазменных панелей в расчете на одну производственную линию, с одновременным закрытием устаревающих производств прошлых поколений.
