У Playstation дела налаживаются. Новые прошивки для PS3 улучшат ее функциональность на 30-40%.
Sony считает, что будущие прошивки для PS3 смогут улучшить ее функциональность, как развлекательного аудио-видео устройства, на 30-40%. Кроме того, стало известно, что, несмотря на не столь большую шумность охлаждающего вентилятора консоли, существует большая вероятность выпуска обновленной модели PS3 без вентилятора, по аналогии с PStwo.

Обновление прошивки версии 1.8 улучшило поддержку оригинальных игр для PSone и PS2, а также добавило возможность растягивать картинку до разрешения 1080p. Также значительно улучшилась взаимная связь между PS3 и PSP.

Если верить Sony, то уже сейчас в PS3 заложена возможность управления в играх при помощи PSP - все зависит лишь от желания разработчиков задействовать эту возможность. Также стало известно, что в скором времени вы сможете использовать PSP, как полноценный пульт дистанционного управления для PS3, включая и выключая консоль на расстоянии.
380 игр для PS3 к марту 2008.
Каз Хираи, президент Sony Computer Entertainment официально пообещал поклонникам, что до марта 2008 года для консоли PS3 будет выпущено в общей сложности 380 игр.

Из этого количества около 180 игр будут распространяться при помощи сервиса цифровой дистрибуции PlayStation Network, а 200 наименований можно будет найти в обычных розничных точках продаж.

В своем последнем интервью Хираи отметил, что Sony Computer Entertainment очень тесно сотрудничает со сторонними разработчиками, стараясь одновременно создавать большое количество игр для своей новой развлекательной системы.

Возможно, Sony действительно уже пора выдвигать на рынок так называемые «настоящие system seller» - игры, которые будут стимулировать потенциальных пользователей покупать PS3.

На фоне медленного запуска игровой приставки Sony PlayStation 3, массивному отзыву аккумуляторных батарей и неважных финансовых показателей IV квартала 2006 года, акционеры японского гиганта начали беспокоиться о своих вложениях. Тем не менее, по словам представителей компании, веских причин для беспокойства нет.

"Мы поднимем корпорацию Sony и ее прибыль вновь будет увеличиваться, - заявил Говард Стрингер (Howard Stringer), председатель совета директоров и исполнительный директор корпорации на встрече с акционерами в Токио, добавив, что основным двигателем роста станет игровая приставка Sony PlayStation 3, не смотря на ее неважный дебют.

Однако инвесторы заявление г-на Стрингера восприняли скептически, пытаясь добиться ответа на вопрос, какую именно стратегию он хочет предпринять, чтобы вернуть рентабельность игрового подразделения и подтянуться в направлении портативных музыкальных плееров к таким конкурентам, как Apple, сообщает AP.

По словам г-на Стрингера, PlayStation 3 станет "ключевым фактором" в будущем росте компании, не смотря на задержки с выходом, дефицит продукта и натиск со стороны основного конкурента - Nintendo Wii. Он утверждает, что все производственные проблемы уже решены. "Запуск новых продуктов всегда сказывается финансовыми потерями на начальном этапе. Мы верим, что PS3 получит шанс и станет успешной", - говорит г-н Стрингер.

Напомним, в течение финансового года, который закончился в марте 2007, компания продала 5,5 млн. консолей, на 0,5 млн. меньше, чем было запланировано, уступив лидерство Nintendo, которая продала 5,84 млн. игровых приставок Wii за аналогичный период.

Между тем, президент Sony Реджи Чубачи (Ryoji Chubachi) остается верен своим прогнозам: прибыль компании за 2007 финансовый год должна увеличиться более чем в 2 раза до $2,7 млрд. в основном благодаря высокому спросу на ЖК-телевизоры, цифровые фото- и видеокамеры.
