Согласно опубликованному финансовому отчету Sony за четвертый квартал 2006 финансового года, игровое подразделение компании не только не приносит доходов, но и терпит убытки в размере 1,9 миллиарда долларов. Представители Sony утверждают, что это связано с тем, что себестоимость PS3 гораздо выше реальной розничной цены на данную консоль, а также со спадом продаж консоли PS2 и программного обеспечения для нее.

За этот период Sony поставила на рынок (отметим, что здесь указано не фактическое количество проданных консолей, а суммарное количество приставок, отправленное в точки продаж):

  • 14,2 миллиона PS2

  • 8,36 миллионов PSP

  • 5,5 миллионов PS3

    • Также за этот период на рынок было поставлено следующее количество игр:

  • 193 миллиона игр для PS2

  • 54 миллиона игр для PSP

  • 13,2 миллиона игры для PS3

    • Sony ожидает, что в следующем финансовом году ситуация должна кардинально поменяться - для этого уже были предприняты серьезные шаги по снижению стоимости производства основных компонентов PS3.

    Несмотря на то, что потери корпорации Sony за последний квартал 2006 финансового года увеличились по сравнению с аналогичным периодом годом ранее, аналитики прогнозируют увеличение прибыли более чем в 2 раза - в основном, возлагая надежды на подразделение пользовательской электроники, сообщает Associated Press.

    Потери компании за последний квартал 2006 финансового года возросли до $563 млн. по сравнению $552 млн. за аналогичный период годом ранее. Хотя за 2006 финансовый год прибыль компании выросла на 2% и составила $1,1 млрд., а квартальные продажи поднялись на 13%, до $16,8 млрд., чему способствовал хороший спрос на ЖК-телевизоры, компьютеры и цифровые видеокамеры.

    Согласно прогнозам экспертов, за следующий финансовый год, который закончится в марте 2008 г., компании удастся увеличить прибыль не менее чем вдвое - с $1,1 млрд. до $2,7 млрд. Достичь этого помогут продажи телевизоров и другой пользовательской электроники. При этом объем продаж за 2007 финансовый год увеличится на 6%, до $73,2 млрд.
