Обновленная прошивка версии 2.1 может быть скачана через Интернет владельцами HD DVD плееров моделей HD-XA1, HD-A1 и HD-D1.<br />Согласно полученной информации, обновление прошивки добавляет поддержку "некого контента доставляемого по сети" в будущих HD DVD дисках. Обновление также касается исправлений в работе HDMI интерфейса и улучшения в проигрывании, а именно, устранение пикселизации изображения, потерь в аудио сигнале и блокировка шума.<br />Некоторые из HD DVD плееров также требуют обновления с учетом недавних проблем с совместимостью. "Дитя человеческое" причиняло владельцам HD DVD много хлопот своими сообщениями об остановке или отказе в проигрывании, даже после попыток проиграть разные копии фильма. Но данное добавление оказалось неспособно решить проблему с TrueHD сигналом, и вместо обещанного качества, оно понижает объем потока до 640kbps Dolby Digital 5.1 с потерями.<br />Большинство пользователей отмечают, что даже с уменьшением потока, TrueHD треки звучат лучше, чем обычные Dolby Digital. К сожалению, это не касается последнего выпуска NIN, так как проигрывание в обновленной Xbox 360 HD DVD в итоге происходит с "постоянными хлопками" и "резкими" шумами, что не позволяет насладиться композициями.<br />Обсуждение данной проблемы привлекло внимание сотрудников Microsoft, которые подтвердили, что они знают об ошибке и добавят исправление в грядущем обновлении.<br />"Мы планируем выпустить обновление для Xbox 360 HD DVD проигрывателя в начале - середине весны. В этом обновлении мы добавим DTS, улучшенный звук и титры" - сообщает сотрудник Microsoft, согласно тому, что он услышал от Xbox команды.
