Все сильнее накаляются страсти в беспрецедентной войне форматов HD DVD vs. Blu-ray. Помимо основных соперников (Sony vs. Toshiba), к боевым действиям подключаются все новые участники. С неожиданным заявлением выступило издание New York Post, выпустившее материал, содержащий такие строки: «розничные торговцы перекроют кислород формату HD DVD где то в следующем году». В принципе, выпуск новых фильмов в формате Blu-ray в течение последнего месяца опережал таковой у формата HD DVD, но по продажам плееров последний формат безусловно лидирует и совершенно не понятно что вынудило достаточно уважаемое издание выступать с подобными заявлениями.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.hdtv.ru/uploads/posts/1174887450_snipshot_d418qlebowlk.jpg" align="left" style="border: none;" alt='Подробности про формат TotalHD' /> Но не смотря на накал страстей, некоторые участники сражения находят в себе силы искать компромиссные решения, одним из которых является формат Total HD. Стандарт, объединяющий на одном двухстороннем диске записи в обоих форматах (HD DVD + Blu-ray), который позволит воинствующим сторонам ужиться хотя бы внутри красочной коробки для диска. К сожалению пока не все ясно со сроками выхода первого фильма в этом стандарте (им будет Superman Returns) и окончательно не решен вопрос о многослойности диска. Первоначально Warner, ответственная за продвижение компромиссного формата, обещала сделать по два слоя на каждой стороне диска (30 Гб на HD DVD-стороне и 50 Гб на стороне-Blu-ray), первый тираж должен был пойти в печать в июне. Также, компания заявила о прекращении выпуска одноформатных дисков с момента начала продаж дисков Total HD. На данный момент издание первого фильма в этом формате сдвинуто на август, и, похоже, что сторона в формате Blu-ray будет содержать только один слой данных (25 Гб).<br />
